Love ‘em or hate ‘em, but admit it: You’ve sent SMS text messages on your mobile phone before. Although text messaging has become increasingly common in the past few years, it can still be somewhat expensive. However, there are loopholes around the commonplace $.10 charges that most carriers charge.
Lifehacker points out that Google is now offering free text messaging. Just install the new Google toolbar on your computer, enter a few contact numbers and you’re ready to go. There’s a Firefox version too. Of course, it kind of defeats the purpose to have to use your computer to SMS, but c’monfree messaging, people!
