battery.jpgWhile I will grant this is not a particularly exciting gadget photo, the item you see here is increasingly one of the pillars of 21st Century society, economy and communication--the lithium ion battery. This one in particular was manufactured by Samsung.

For those of you who would like a little deeper knowledge about what makes your modern devices tick and seasoned business travellers who are reliant on mobiles, small business Web resource All Business has posted Cell Phone Battery FAQ which runs down some valuable information on the three types of phone batteries (nickel cadmium or NiCad, nickel metal hydride or NiMH and lithium ion or LiIon) as well as tips for maximizing their life and avoiding what's commonly called "memory effect" in rechargable nickel batteries. FYI, the more expensive but smaller, longer-lived and more efficiently charged LiIon batteries are the standard for the most current devices: phones, smartphones, pocket PCs, laptops and iPods.
