JetBlue's young turks, eager to gain more of a foothold in the US budget flight races, just unveiled a new weapon: in-flight wireless internet. Though the idea just recently made the jump from company brainstorm to on-the-drawing-board status (thanks to a $7 million 1 megahertz wireless license from the FCC), industry wags are expecting JetBlue to make full use of the license. Potential options from the airline include wireless air-ground internet access, in flight SMS messaging and a possible pay-for-use option for flyers with cell phones. Luxist helpfully points out that surfing the internet is a lot more fun than watching the in-flight film. As for us, having suffered through a transcontinental flight with nothing more than Jumanji for company, we agree.
