A Pint in Paris
Wednesday April 30, 2008
It may seem almost sacrilegious in such a wine loving city as Paris, but sometimes you just want a beer. Fortunately, there are a few places where one may indulge in a pint or two. The closest beer bar to Le Méridien Etoile is Culture Bière, a "modern pavilion of beer" on the Champs Élysées. You won't find any microbrews — it's owned by Heineken and therefore only serves the conglomerate's lines — the space is elegant and the view is great; stop into the boutique for some unusual items made with beer.
For a more rustic feel, seek out one of the Frog pubs scattered around the city. These four British-style pubs — the closest to the hotel is The Frog & Rosbif in the 2nd arrondissement brews its own beers and serve as congregating points for British and American ex-pats. You can catch a rugby or soccer game on TV (NFL games, too, in season) and have some fish and chips over a pint of Dark de Triomphe stout.
Other options include Académie de Bière, which offers a good selection (although not good enough for some beer snobs), and La Cave à Bulles, which specializes in hard to find French artisanal beers.
