Hawaii is an ideal destination for active outdoorsy types, with endless opportunities for action and adventure, but those who prefer to enjoy their entertainment from a seated position in air-conditioned comfort have options as well. Film buffs, for example, will want to check out the Big Island Film Festival, which will be held May 15-18, 2008 in Waikoloa. Now in its third year, the festival will screen both local and international releases in three different venues at Queens Marketplace. Highlights of this year's festival include Hawaiian films such as Sunday Wind, about three Oahu farmers "talking story," the Blanket, which concerns our attachment to things and what it does to us, and Cotton Cool, which is described as an "outrageous teddy bear musical epic." Okay, that is something I've got to see. The nice thing about having a film festival in Hawaii is that you can spend your morning surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, or just relaxing on the beach, and usher in the evening with some cutting-edge film making. That's the kind of balance that makes life worth living. Guests at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa, a half-hour away, might want to take in a screening or two after a day at the beach.
