Space.jpgIt's not as well known as the New York or Boston marathons, but the annual Space Coast Marathon & Half Marathon has one thing that the others lack: an out of this world location in Cocoa Village, Florida near the Kennedy Space Center. Now in its 38th year, this historic event keeps things interesting for both runners and spectators by giving the proceedings a space theme. The 26.2-mile race begins at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2009 to the roar of a Space Shuttle countdown and liftoff on the Jumbotron. Along the partially shaded riverfront course are 14 space-themed water/aid stations staffed by volunteers in NASA-like uniforms and hats, and space props throughout the area and at the finish line. In a race like this, everyone's a winner, and all finishers receive a custom astronaut metal and space certificate, the perfect souvenir to prove your accomplishments to friends and family. Whether you run or watch, you can have your photo taken with astronauts walking around the race area, and receive discounts to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Prospective runners can register online, and well wishers can simply show up and cheer on the intergalactic athletes. Need a place to stay while on the Space Coast? The Four Points by Sheraton Cocoa Beach is located on world-famous Cocoa Beach, just minutes from the action.

Space Shuttle Endeavor.jpgThe Space Shuttle Endeavor is one of the most advanced space exploration vehicles ever built, and to see it launch into orbit is an experience unlike any other. Its next scheduled launch is June 13, 2009, and those hoping to witness this historic event can enjoy front row seats at the Four Points by Sheraton Cocoa Beach. Conveniently located just an hour from the Kennedy Space Center, it's the perfect spot from which to cheer on Endeavor as it embarks on a mission to the International Space Station. When it finally disappears into the sky, you'll be able to hit the beach for a day of surfing, swimming, and fun in the sun, followed by an evening of food, drinks, and music at the hotel's Shark Pit Lounge. Even if you can't make it to the launch, the Four Points by Sheraton Cocoa Beach is still your best bet for exploring the space center, thanks to the Sweet, Simple Space Travel offer. Rates start at $155 and include one night's accommodations, two passes to the Kennedy Space Center, and free scheduled transportation to and from the space center. Space Shuttle Atlantis.jpgThree, two, one, liftoff! On May 12, 2009, the Space Shuttle Atlantis will take off from Launch Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, embarking on its fifth and final servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope. Fans of space exploration who want to witness this historic launch can make their way to the Four Points by Sheraton Cocoa Beach, which is close enough to the launch site to get a great view of the action. There's nothing like witnessing a shuttle launch, and the Four Points Cocoa Beach is about the nicest place you can do it. Located just minutes from the Space Center, Port Canaveral cruise and gambling ships, and the widest beach in Florida, you'll find no shortage of fun things to do once Atlantis has slipped the surly bonds of earth. Feel like getting wet? Cocoa Beach is the surf capital of the east coast, and the world's largest surf complex is ready to outfit you with everything you need to hit the waves and hang ten. It's not quite space flight, but it's still pretty exciting.

Napportunity Month at Four Points

Monday April 10, 2006

napportunity.jpgThough you've probably caught up with daylight savings time by now, it's entirely possible you missed out on National Napping Day (Monday, April 3). However, there's still plenty of time to pack in some quality napping. All of April is "Napportnity" month at participating Four Points by Sheraton hotels. If you're looking for a little extra R&R in the nap-o-sphere, the Napportunity package gets you a special weekend rate, free breakfast, 4 p.m. checkout, and a NapSack. That sack holds a sleep mask, sleep balm, a helpful tome entitled The Art of Napping, a "Nap in Progress" doorhanger, and of course, a teddy bear. You also get a pad full of prepared nap excuses in order to fend off would-be nap-nappers. As it says in the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Nappers, "Begin to plan your next nap as you awaken from this nap."
